Bee-wise and candle making workshop
Local beekeepers Ian & Anne Lennox and Ruth Anderson
will give an insight into the amazing world of the Honeybee. Come along for a
fun and informative session, as well as learning more about what we can do to
help the bees. There will also be a chance to make your own candle to take
away.
This event is suitable for all ages.
Love Food, Hate Waste!
Kenny Leishman from local food company V Cuisine will be
showing how we can save money by reducing our food waste, as well as giving top
tips on using leftovers. There will be recipes, ideas and some tasty dishes to
try.

Funky felted flowers from tired old togs workshop
Lorna Reid from Chookiebirdie will be here to demonstrate
and help with making your own corsage from recycled felted fabric. All
materials will be provided, so come along and have fun whilst trying something
new.

Grow your own Groceries workshop
Do you fancy growing your own veg and herbs but need help
to get started? Or maybe you grow your own and would like some advice or tips?
Then this is for you – enthusiastic local growers Margaret Brogan, Norma Kemp
and Lynne Bates will be here with lots of help, advice and top tips for
creative ways to grow some of your own food. There will also be an opportunity
to have a go and take home your own planted up salad and veg.
Transition in Scotland Film and Information
Night
Come along and find out what other towns and villages in
Scotland are doing to become more self-reliant in the face of increasing oil
prices and energy change. The Transition in Scotland film is an inspiring documentary
showing what different communities have achieved in the last three years whilst
having fun, helping the environment and saving money.
Wine and nibbles will be provided.

Compost and Wormery
Want to make your own compost or fancy having a wormery
but don’t know where to start? Want to grow tastier and more nutritious food,
save money and have good soil fertility? Come along and find out how with Ron
Gilchrist from Greenway Training. This interactive workshop will include buying
or making your own wormery or compost bin, how to get started and top tips and
troubleshooting.

Did
you know that many weeds are actually useful medicinal plants? Local herbalist
Pamela Spence shows the hidden gems of West Kilbride on this herb walk in the village.
Learn ways to preserve herbs so that you can use them throughout the year.

Willow making workshop
Come and have a go at willow making with Geoff Forrest of Sustainable Designs. Geoff will be on hand to help you build a bird feeder or platter for the grown- ups and a tree or fish for the not so grown- up!
All materials will be provided so come and have fun whilst learning a new skill and get creative with willow.
This is an all day drop in session (stay as long or as short as you like!) but please call or pop in to book so we know numbers for the sessions.

Glasgow Wood Recycling - make your own planter
Glasgow Wood recycling makes great ethical products from recycled wood. They find creative ways to reuse this valuable resource and will have a selection of their seats, planters and garden items on display. They will also bring along some recycled wood and help you to make a small planter which you can plant up with salad or veg to take away.

Micro-renewable technologies talk
Come along and hear Bob Baillie from the Energy Saving Scotland Advice Centre talk about his personal experience of renewable technologies. A real advocate for sustainable energy solutions, Bob will cover the different technologies available to householders and essential information about the Feed in Tariffs. You can also learn more about our Solar Bulk Discount scheme - offering substantial cost savings on solar hot water and PV systems.
Why all the fuss about climate change?
Local resident Kate Dapre will be talking about the real facts around climate change, and the simple things we can all do to help reduce our carbon footprints.
Rag
rugging and lavender heart making workshop
Come
along and have a go at rag rugging with Anne McGrath from Gathering Threads.
This popular activity uses scrap material to produce a lovely, useful rug. Also
try your hand at a lavender padded heart with recycled material, producing a
desirable gift. All materials provided.

Upcycle your pre-loved textiles workshop
Anne
and Lorna will be giving top tips and inspirational advice on how to re-use
your textiles. There will be an opportunity to see items and gifts creatively
made from recycled materials and find out how you can Upcycle your textiles.

TWK will be there at the Masquerade Gala - come and see our fantastic Green Man mask at the eco advice centre and learn more about Towards Sustainable West Kilbride! You can also enter our free draw to win an eco driving lesson (worth £40!), enjoy some locally made soup and pick up some sweet treats!

Over 55 people including our local MSP, Councillor, members of community groups, partners and interested individuals came along last Friday to help celebrate the official opening of the new eco advice centre at the Community Centre, Corse St, West Kilbride.
