Food
We are all aware of rising food prices and more and more people are becoming concerned about where their food comes from and how it is grown, whether it’s fruit, vegetables or livestock. The food project aims to help our community look at some of the ways we can re-localise and re-connect with our food in these challenging times of rising oil prices and climate change through;
There is much to do and so much we can do and your ideas and energy are welcome at our regular food group meetings.
Wherever your interest in food lies, be it re-localising our food supply, avoiding packaging, cutting down on food miles and reducing oil use, helping to overturn the supermarkets’ stranglehold on our food system or just wanting to grow your own and have fun whilst doing it we want to hear from you.
Our food initiatives will cover a broad range of activities and those planned so far include;
- Supporting those wanting to grow your own groceries
- Encouraging the buying of local produce
- Transforming our public spaces into a community food resource
- Working with farmers, producers and retailers to strengthen our connection to local food and supporting our local economy

Our food initiatives will cover a broad range of activities and those planned so far include;
- A fruitful future – we aim to start a fruit and nut tree growing programme in gardens and public areas around the village, where we can all enjoy the harvest’s when they come. We will provide training and advice for new and existing fruit tree owners including pruning, grafting and harvesting.
- Edible growing spaces – Do you want to grow your own but don’t have the space? Do you feel you don’t know how to start growing your own? Have you space to grow and are willing to share with others? Come and talk to us as we will be looking at different ways to link all these through a Garden Share programme, Food growing workshops and edible growing spaces.
- Wild Food Foray’s – there are so many edible free foods out there but where do you start? We will be running herb walks, fungi workshops, apple pressing and preserving your harvest sessions to save money, learn more about what’s around us and have fun doing it.
- Wormery workshops – do you fancy having a wormery to compost your food waste as well as produce fantastic compost for your plants? We will provide training and support as well as a wormery for you to take away and start to use.
